Large gates are used to enclose an area at the side of a house or a drive; they are always sold as a pair. There are several combinations that can be achieved, the following photographs show the four most popular designs that I sell. These gates are normally hung with 24” tee hinges with an 18” drop bolt, ring latch & pad bolt to keep them shut. More furniture info here. Above we have the front & rear (different sites) of a pair of ledged & braced close boarded gates. They can be constructed up to 6' x 6' square (6’6” curved) covering a gap of 12', although we like to keep the width down to 10' if possible because of the weight and strength of the gate. Gates of this size are normally hung on 6”x 6” posts set in the ground approximately 30”. Close board gates are made with sawn timber and have a rough feel to them. |

No 2 is close boarded again, but with a full frame and due to the weight this pair is on 7” posts. |

Next we move to tongue & grooved, these gates have a smooth finish & will paint or stain nicely. Two main designs again, ledged & braced as above or full framed as below. Again either straight or curved tops are possible. |
